Appraisal

Appraisal is run by the PCTs directly. It is variable as to how each pct has arranged this. The PCTs must do this for all their doctors, but some feel that there is a difference between doctors. In the current arrangements we are all on a Performers list.

Funds are available to the PCTs to pay for appraisal, whilst Principals are usually being reimbursed for some of the costs, it can be harder for other doctors to recieve the same level of reimbursement.

Appraisal is intended as a learning process. It is an opportunity to review current practice and education and to plan for future learnig appropriate to your own needs. In addition it can be used to feedback to a central resource provider where the educational needs of a large group can be assessed and used to formulate resource provision.
